We're seeking a skilled and passionate AI Engineer to join our growing team, someone excited to work at the frontier of what's possible when AI tools like Claude Code collapse the gap between backend intelligence and shipped product.

The Role: Own the Feature, End to End

As an AI Engineer at Volve, you'll take full ownership of features - from designing and building the AI backend through to shipping a working web experience. You won't be handing off to a web developer and waiting. Using AI coding tools (primarily Claude Code) and Figma designs as your spec, you'll connect the AI backend to the frontend yourself, delivering features that are production-ready or close to it.

The critical interface you own is the connection between the AI backend and the web layer. That's where the real complexity lives - the frontend itself is largely handled by AI tooling working from Figma, leaving you free to focus on what matters: building robust AI pipelines and making sure they're properly wired into the product.

You'll work directly with designers and product - no web developer bottleneck, no translation layer.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and Own AI Pipelines: Design, develop, and maintain AI pipelines that process large-scale unstructured data - the core of what Volve does.
• Ship Full Features End to End: Use Claude Code and Figma designs to implement frontend functionality yourself, owning the full loop from AI backend to working web feature.
• Own the Web ↔ AI Connection: Architect and maintain the integration layer between the AI backend and the React/TypeScript frontend. This is where your ownership is most critical.
• Design Scalable Python Backends: Write modular, efficient, and maintainable Python following best practices - built for reliability and long-term scale.
• Implement Knowledge Graph Systems: Contribute to the development of knowledge graph components for organising and relating project-critical data.
• Maintain Code Quality: Apply rigorous testing, unit, integration, and performance, to keep the system reliable and fast.

The Ideal Candidate

You're primarily a strong AI/backend engineer, but you're comfortable enough with React and TypeScript to use Claude Code effectively - reading, directing, and verifying AI-generated frontend code. You don't need to be a frontend expert; you need to be someone who can use AI tooling to close the last mile without needing a developer to do it for you.

You likely bring:

• Strong Python development experience in a data-driven or AI-focused environment
• Experience with NLP techniques; Knowledge Graphs are a strong plus
• Working familiarity with React and TypeScript - enough to use and direct Claude Code confidently
• Comfort reading Figma designs and translating them into implementation specs for AI tooling
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (we use GCP)
• Experience writing robust unit and integration tests
• A bias toward ownership - you'd rather close the loop yourself than wait for someone else
