Mathematical optimization, algorithms, data science, and applied problem solving At OptiFish, we're on a mission to transform the global aquaculture industry using AI and mathematical optimization. The world needs more sustainable protein, and fish farming is one of the most promising ways to produce it — but the planning and operations behind modern farms are staggeringly complex. We're building the intelligence layer that helps farmers make better decisions, produce more with less, and ultimately feed more people sustainably. The optimization model is a core part of our product. It has to reconcile biology, economics, logistics and hard operational constraints into a single plan that a production manager can actually trust and act on. That is a genuinely difficult mathematical problem, and it is the problem we want you to take ownership of, working closely with our internal optimization team. You'll work closely with our CEO, Chief Product Officer, and Head of Optimization, taking a leading role in designing and improving our internal optimization models. In a small team, that means being deeply hands-on: you'll build it yourself, not specify it for someone else. You will also be working with customers, helping translate their needs to model adjustments. What you'll do- Own and advance the optimization algorithms and machine learning models at the heart of our platform — design, algorithmic strategy, performance- Translate messy, real-world production constraints from salmon and smolt farmers into rigorous mathematical structure- Build and ship product features around the platform, not just the model itself- Work directly with customers to understand their operations, and explain what the optimization does and why it recommends what it recommends- Take real technical ownership: you'll shape architecture and priorities, not just execute tickets Who you are- You have deep mathematical, logical and algorithmic problem-solving skills — PhD-level depth is welcome, but not a requirement if you can show experience with and passion for hard technical problems- You genuinely enjoy hard logical problems, and you have a track record of solving them- You're a strong engineer with good math skills — you can build and ship, not only prototype- You're high-agency, like working in small teams, and comfortable with ambiguity, and you'd rather define the problem than wait for someone to define it for you- You can talk to customers who are not technical, and stay clear and grounded when you do Relevant backgrounds- Mathematical optimization (different classes of methods)- Operations research, industrial engineering, applied mathematics- Algorithm design, computer science and computational complexity- Scientific computing, quantitative modelling or machine learning in industry- Competitive programming or similar No aquaculture experience needed — we'll teach you the biology.We care much more about your passion for solving hard technical problems and for building real-world products How to applySend us your CV and, importantly, concrete examples of optimization problems or hard algorithmic challenges you've worked on.
