Who we are

Since starting Ignite in 2017 here in Oslo, we have now grown to 60+ people, with five cross-functional and empowered product teams. We’re a diverse group of people from chess masters, marathon runners, DJs, musicians, gamers, bakers, football players, bookworms, and more. We are ambitious and have a shared desire to make a real difference and create a meaningful impact on the world.

Who we’re looking for

We’re excited to share that we are now looking for a Head of Design to join our growing Product team. Our new Head of Design, will play a key role in further developing and shaping the design discipline at Ignite. You’ll be responsible for ensuring design contributes to discovering and delivering truly valuable and delightful products to our customers.

We believe in the “empowered team” model, so you’ll work closely with our Chief Product Officer and engineering management to help our Product team become best-in-class, where they thrive, feel safe, grow, collaborate, and deliver great products.

3 key Head of Design responsibilities 

• Manage and develop our design team. Build and coach a high-performing design team, fostering a culture of user-centricity, curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Take strategic ownership of our product’s user experience. Define and further develop our UX strategy and create alignment across product teams to ensure a cohesive user experience throughout our product.
• Be a hands-on design contributor. We’re a fairly lean scale-up and expect you to (initially) be a hands-on contributor and take the design lead role in 1 of our 5 product teams. Over time, and with your recommendations on how to develop our Design team further, you’ll be less hands-on and have full focus on managing the team and working on a strategic level to develop design in Ignite further.

We’re looking for someone with

• A few years of experience managing a Design team and coaching designers to grow.
• Experience working in a modern Product team. You find the “empowered team” philosophy the preferred and expected way of working.
• A skilled designer with a deep and broad experience in user-centered design principles and methodologies — you know how good products are discovered and delivered.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a real advocate for Design. You have the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with stakeholders in a company.
• A growth mindset. You’re curious and eager to continuously learn and keep yourself and the team updated on Product Design.

It would be a plus (but not required) if you

• Have experience working in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment.
• Are fluent in Norwegian.
• Have experience in building SaaS products.
