The Role

The Robotics Software Engineer connects each vehicle-specific control interface to the Hive robotics platform. This person ensures that the complete robotics software stack operates reliably on the physical machine.

The focus is system integration rather than the development of new perception or planning algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Develop machine drivers, software adapters, and hardware abstraction interfaces.

• Connect vehicle state, commands, sensors, diagnostics, and telemetry to the Hive platform.

• Integrate vehicle-specific functionality with the autonomy and control stack.

• Configure and calibrate the software platform for each machine.

• Integrate sensors, coordinate frames, timing, networking, and data interfaces.

• Debug issues spanning robotics software, networking, embedded controls, and physical hardware.

• Develop automated integration, regression, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop tests.

• Build tools for diagnostics, telemetry analysis, logging, and commissioning.

• Validate end-to-end system behavior on real machines.

• Support field bring-up, testing, and customer acceptance.

• Develop reusable software integration patterns for future vehicle platforms.

• Work with core platform teams to improve interfaces and eliminate vehicle-specific forks.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing or integrating software for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex physical systems.

• Strong C++ and Python development skills.

• Strong Linux development and debugging experience.

• Experience with robotics middleware such as ROS 2, DDS, or equivalent systems.

• Experience developing drivers and interfaces for sensors, actuators, and embedded controllers.

• Understanding of networking, time synchronization, coordinate frames, calibration, and telemetry.

• Experience testing software on real robotic systems.

• Ability to diagnose problems across hardware and software boundaries.

• Experience with simulation, automated testing, or hardware-in-the-loop systems.

• Willingness to work hands-on with machines and travel regularly.
